KYTC Operations Management System

Goal

To acquire an enterprise-wide operations management system to consolidate the entry and management of data and provide a daily reporting interface to allow entry of all pertinent data elements to properly track projects, as well as to provide the ability to generate predefined and ad hoc reports for management.

Challenge

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is charged with building and maintaining U.S. highways and Kentucky state highways; managing more than 27,000 miles of highways, including roughly 20,500 miles of secondary roads, 3,600 miles of primary roads, and more than 1,400 interstate and parkway miles.

  • With a staff of 3,200, KYTC was struggling to operate efficiently with their existing structure, which was comprised of simple, independent systems that were not comprehensive or successfully integrated and required improvements in organizational development, efficiency, productivity and cost effectiveness.

Solution

2000: KYTC chose AgileAssets Inc. to provide, customize, configure and install a fully integrated Operations Management System (OMS) for all maintenance operations, including a module for heavy equipment. KYTC and AgileAssets went live with the customized OMS in 2002, which is comprised of AgileAssets’ Maintenance Manager and Pavement Analyst.

Benefits

Following the implementation of the OMS, KYTC enhanced their ability to make proactive decisions in efforts to maximize availability, usage and cost effectiveness of resources. The management systems result in overall improvements in efficiency, productivity, decision making, organizational development, accountability, planning, reporting, speed of information gathering and transparency.

Update

In 2008, KYTC elected to upgrade to AgileAssets’ web-based OMS to integrate their databases to allow seamless sharing of information between users throughout the state. In addition, the web-based service delivers the benefits of no cost upgrades, enhanced support services, and zero footprint on client machines – cutting down the need for technical administrative maintenance and lowering costs overall.
