Network screening and project selection
In the first video, Patricia Walsh Burke, PE, Safety Engineer at Montana Department of Transportation, presents the network screening and project selection processes followed by the Montana Department of Transportation using MDT’s Safety Information Management System (SIMS).
Systemic analysis of roadway and low-cost treatment options
The second video features AgileAssets’ Senior Consultant, Shafiul Azam, PhD, and Patricia Walsh Burke from Montana DOT. They show how roadway departure crashes are the leading cause of highway crash-related fatalities. Roadway departure crashes are more prevalent in rural than urban settings. Due to the enormity of the problem a systemic analysis of roadway and low-cost treatment options across the entire roadway network is often a better option than providing expensive treatments on the pockets of networks that show an excessive number of such crashes.
