Mobile App Improves Bridge Inspection Accuracy and Efficiency Using Mapping and Data Validation
Field crews can boost productivity by eliminating errors and repeat trips to work sites.
May 7, 2019 – AgileAssets Inc., a leading provider of transportation asset lifecycle management software, has released a new mobile application that helps state and local agencies do a better job of inspecting the safety and condition of bridges and other structures while saving time and taxpayer money. The AgileAssets® Structures Inspector™ mobile application, a companion to the company’s Structures Inspector™ web solution, helps bridge inspection teams improve accuracy and efficiency through interactive maps and built-in data validation.
Using the mobile application to replace paper-and-clipboard processes, inspectors can see the location of a planned inspection on a map, view the last inspection report, access inventory information, complete National Bridge Inventory (NBI) component and element ratings, and augment ratings with annotated photos—all while working without network connectivity on an Apple® iOS or Android™ tablet. Syncing data from the mobile device with the web application helps field workers increase productivity by eliminating data-entry errors, rework, and repeat trips to inspection sites.
“At AgileAssets, we’re focused on developing new ways to help transportation agencies get more value across the full lifecycle of their infrastructure assets,” said Jared Pulham, Director of Product Management at AgileAssets. “With our Structures Inspector mobile application, we’ve improved the user experience by moving to tablets, and we’ve streamlined inspection-related tasks so agencies can devote more of their resources to meeting national performance standards and delivering safer, longer-lasting structures.”
A large US state department of transportation provided input on the development of the mobile application and is preparing to add the app to its existing lineup of AgileAssets solutions. Along with the state’s bridge management system of record (AgileAssets® Structures Analyst™), the department will use the mobile application to help manage the full asset lifecycle of bridges, culverts, and other structures more cost-effectively.
