Oklahoma Department of Transportation Wins Excellence Award for Ramping Up Taxpayer Savings and Highway Safety Using AgileAssets Software

Votes from 128 transportation industry leaders determined the winning agency

Oklahoma Department of Transportation (DOT) took the top prize in the 2018 AgileAssets® Excellence in Infrastructure Asset Management (AXIAM) Awards, which recognize organizations that deliver value to the traveling public by managing roads, bridges, and other infrastructure assets in innovative ways using AgileAssets software. Oklahoma earned the award for its comprehensive User Satisfaction Design initiative, which helps state employees use the software’s advanced analytical tools to save taxpayer dollars while maintaining a safe and efficient highway network.

The AXIAM Award winner was selected from among seven public agencies—including six U.S. state transportation departments and one city government—that competed by presenting their most innovative projects for evaluation by the 166 transportation professionals who attended the AgileAssets International Users Conference (IUC) in Austin, Texas, in April 2018. Votes from 128 conference-goers—including transportation industry leaders from 30 public and private organizations worldwide—determined the winning project.

“It is an honor for our state to be recognized by our industry peers and global experts,” said Alex Calvillo, PE, Assistant State Maintenance Engineer at Oklahoma DOT. “As stewards of taxpayer funds, we developed the User Satisfaction Design initiative to make the best use of AgileAssets technology to maintain safe, cost-effective road networks that keep drivers, passengers, and goods traveling smoothly to their destinations.”

User Satisfaction Design is a set of training, surveys, communications, and in-house support activities that help Oklahoma DOT staff make optimal use of the advanced features of the AgileAssets Maintenance Management System (Maintenance Manager™). The system helps agencies save time and money by improving how they manage the labor, equipment, and materials for maintaining roadway assets.

AgileAssets has helped transportation agencies worldwide manage more than $42 billion in public funding to keep road networks safe and in good repair for nearly 200 million travelers.

“We congratulate and commend Oklahoma DOT for building a culture of continuous learning and improvement that sets a positive example for the industry,” said AgileAssets President Stuart Hudson, PE. “As our collaboration partner and valued customer, Oklahoma DOT has developed impressive capabilities to maximize the very benefits that the AgileAssets solution was designed to deliver: higher returns on infrastructure investments—which means greater savings of time, money, and lives.”

The six other AXIAM Award nominees, who each received recognition at the IUC conference, included AgileAssets clients:

  • Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities
  • City of Austin, Public Works
  • Kentucky Transportation Cabinet
  • Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (AXIAM Award runner-up)
  • New York State Department of Transportation
  • Texas Department of Transportation.
